The College 4 Ayn Rand Fans

Founders College ad in the Christian Science Monitor online:

Compare and contrast this with Founders College Professor Robert Garmong's denials to this blog last week:
"Those who want to read Founders as an "Objectivist college" are doing an enormous disservice to our students. That is not our stated goal, nor is it my goal as a professor. To those who have raised bizarre and irrelevant criticism of Founders, based on nothing but their own bias against Ayn Rand's ideas, I would recommend that you study the fallacy of the Argument from Ignorance."
Despite these and other embarrassing contradictions of Dr Garmong's claims, neither Dr Garmong nor the College's PR firm have responded to our requests so far for elaboration.

(thanks to sharp-eyed commenter Neil Parille for the catch)

Wow. Great catch.

Pop quiz for Professor Garmong. Which contemporary philosopher wrote this?

"Honesty is the recognition of the fact that the unreal is unreal and can have no value, that neither love nor fame nor cash is a value if obtained by fraud--that an attempt to gain a value by deceiving the mind of others is an act of raising your victims to a position higher than reality, where you become a pawn of their blindness, a slave of their non-thinking and their evasions, while their intelligence, their rationality, become the enemies you have to dread and flee ...."

It's very odd, isn't it. I've got nothing against Objectivists starting an ARI-flavoured Objectivist College if they are so inclined. It's just the fact they're trying to pretend that's not what they're doing.

Dan & Michael,

I suppose they had 4 options:

(1) we are an Objectivist, pro-ARI college;

(2) we are an Objectivist (non-ARI affiliated) college;

(3) we are neutral, but sympathetic toward Objectivism; or

(4) we are non-affiliated with any movement, but (wink, wink) pro-reason (kind of like the "evil" Ashland University which is "non-Christian" but "supports the Judeo-Christian tradition.")

Perhaps they thought that there were problems with any approach, particularly should they want to stay in the good graces of the ARI. So they opted for position 4 (which may explain why they have 10 students).

At least that's how I see it.

Perhaps Dr. Garmong or the PR agency will help us out.

What would the Ashland College Google ad say?

"Do you admire Jesus Christ?"
